Hearing the call

"Golf is the cruelest game, because eventually it will drag you out in front of the whole school, take your lunch money and slap you around."
- Rick Reilly

After years of working in the white-collar corporate world, I have heard many a conversation about individuals hijinx on the golf course. So far I have resisted the urge to adopt this obsession. But now I'm starting to question this resistance. I'm starting to wonder if I'm missing out on something. So, I've decided to take the plunge.

I'm going to take up golf this year.

If I'm going to to this, I'd better do it right. I've heard that if you start, and start wrong, you can become deeply engrained in bad habits. A bad tick in your swing can become a permanent bad habit. So, luckily for me, I live close to two golf courses. I notice one has a newbie "Learn To Golf" class, four one-our sessions in March. I'm as good as signed-up. So we'll see how this goes.

After I'm cut loose by this learn to golf thing, LOOK OUT!

Anybody that uses the word "hijinx" is ready to play golf. They are also ready to drive a Mercedes (or Buick) while wearing a hat, complain about the how good things used to be and use a walker.

I'll bet as I golf, I'll learn a few other choice words. As I duff the ball, I'll bet I don't blurt out "Aw fiddlesticks!"

You DO know that the other name for golf is "whack....fiddlesticks!"?

Just for you...
If profanity had an influence on the flight of the ball, the game of golf would be played far better than it is. ~Horace G. Hutchinson
